NIGHT HIKE & FIRST AID COMPETITION

The annual District Night Hike takes place during the late Autumn. Teams of between 4 and 7 Scouts, take up the challenge of navigating their way through approximately 10 miles of Hertfordshire countryside by foot.

Walking is broken up by a series of `incident bases', ranging from dealing with a first aid scenario to lighting a small fire to burn through a string line, half a metre from the ground! to mention just two.

For those who like the competitive element, there are trophies for the fastest walking time, the highest score on the incident bases and an overall Night Hike trophy.

The next District Night Hike will held on Saturday 4th December 2010 and includes the District First Aid Competition.

12 Scout and 2 Explorer teams braved the heavy rain and hiked 10 miles around Sandon, Green End and Throcking. Incident bases included First Aid, Morse Code, Local Knowledge and a selection of small challenges. Burgers were enjoyed by all at the half-way stop.

The results were as follows:

Scout Hike Winners: Pin Green B
Scout Base Winners: First Stevenage
Scout Overall Winners: First Stevenage
Scout First Aid Winners: Chells Intrepid Eagles
Explorer Hike Winners: Stags ESU
Explorer Base Winners: Falcons ESU
Explorer First Aid Winners: Falcons ESU
