Scouts from Stevenage descended on Fairlands Valley Park for an action packed day of adventurous activities, including sailing, canoeing, climbing, shooting and orienteering. With the sun baking down all day, the water activities provided a welcome cooling off! The MP for Stevenage, Stephen McPartland visited. Andy has been nominated for a Comet Community Award by his son Matthew. Matthew told The Comet "He's been involved in Scouting since I was born, and has been raising money ever since...running the Scout Train at school fetes and fundays...he helps a charity like the NSPCC at Stevenage Day...also he has helped Stevenage Community Trust." Over 30 Beavers & Cubs who achieved their Chief Scout Bronze and Silver Awards in the first 6 months of 2010 were invited to have certificates presented by the Mayor of Stevenage - Cllr Michael Downing, The Mayoress, and the District Commissioner in the Stevenage Council Chambers. Six Patrols of Scouts took part in the District Scout Camping Challenge, Colonel Woods over the 18th-20th June. As well as Patrol camping and cooking they enjoyed a wide game, gadget making, chariot race, firelighting & backwoods cooking, a murder mystery, camp fire, archery and axe/saw skills session. The Colonel Woods trophy went to Chells Voyager, Chells Intrepid A won the Ken Saint trophy (runners-up) and the Camp Cooking trophy. Click here for more information
Over 40 Beavers & Cubs who achieved their Chief Scout Bronze and Silver Awards in 2009 were presented certificates by the Mayor of Stevenage - Cllr Sue Myson, The Mayor's Consort, and the Scout County Commissioner in the Stevenage Council Chambers. Click here for more information.
Not put off by the heavy rain and cold night, 12 Scout and 2 Explorer teams braved the elements and hiked 10 miles around Sandon, Green End and Throcking for the annual Scout Night Hike. Incident bases provided a welcome break from the walking and included First Aid, Morse Code, Local Knowledge and a selection of small challenges. Burgers were enjoyed by all at the half-way stop. The First Stevenage Scouts won the overall Scout Night Hike Trophy and chells Intrepid Scouts won the First Aid. Both Explorer units won trophies too. Visit the night hike page for more information.

Our annual Cub Conker Competition at our Distrct HQ was won by 5th Stevenage Cub Scouts. Approx 30 Cub Scout took part from 6 Cub Packs for an hour of conkers. Click here to view photos
Approx 30 Beaver Scouts enjoyed a day trip to Woodside Animal Farm. The beavers said... 'After we got there we saw alpacas, chimpanzees, snakes, sheep and lots lots more....I enjoyed the playbarn because it was really cool....i enjoyed the animals and the ride on tea cups with my friend'. 55 Scouts explored the town by foot and public transport using local maps and an Explorer bus ticket to compete in the 'Around Town Challenge', a successful new one day event for Scouts. The ten teams travelled between four Scout Headquarters for activities including archery, fire lighting, survival skills and pioneering. A team from the 7th Stevenage Sea Scouts won the trophy. Stevenage and Hemel Explorers forged through the snow from Phasels Wood to Ivinghoe Beacon. They learned the use of ice axes, rope skills, and the use of survival bags for tobaoganning. Click here for more information

| Paul Drackford has stood down as ADC Scouts but is staying with us as a District Scouter and District Water Adviser. We would all like to thank Paul for all the hard work he has put in over many years as ADC Scouts. We would like to welcome Neil Ravilious as our new ADC Scouts. Neil is a very experienced scouter and comes with new ideas as well the old tried and tested ones.

It is with great sadness we advise of the "Going Home" of RAY CHAMBERS at the age of 80. Ray was a County Vice President and had held a number of appointments including Acting DC of Stevenage in 1992. Ray was awarded the Silver Wolf in 1990. He lived in Hitchin with his devoted wife Kathleen who was known widely in Scouting and Guiding in Hertfordshire. There will be a Memorial Service / Celebration of the Life on Saturday 30th September at the Walsworth Road Baptist Church, Hitchin at 1500 hrs
Thank you to all those that took part in the Sponsored Walk - we anticipate that approx £1500 has been raised - to be split between Scouting and GOSH
