Bournemouth Camp Diary
Thursday 25th August
After passing through the stringent security at Blandford Army Camp, the Cubs and Adults (that managed to stay awake) enjoyed a film. We then moved to the Banqueting suite for lunch. After lunch the Cubs split in groups to explore the Royal Signals Museum, cracking codes and experimenting on the different hands-on signalling technology. The Cubs then watched a short film about how signalling has developed over the years. Finally the Cubs visited the Souvenir Shop. Once back to site they took part in Site Activities again including Archery, Crate Stacking, Climbing, Adventure Playground, Agililty Trail and Trampolining. The Cubs then had supper of Hot Chocolate and cake.
Wednesday 24th August
The children had a blast this morning zapping the adults at Laserquest to score points for their team. We had a short walk through the park to the beach to eat our sandwiches by Bournemouth pier. The Cubs then spent a few hours in the sunshine building sandcastles, burying each other in the sand, and paddling in the sea. With a lolly stop on the seafront, the Cubs then headed back to the campsite for a very filling dinner. The evening was rounded off with a campfire with all the other campers on site.
Tuesday 23rd August
A quick start greeted the Cubs today as they were off over Poole Harbour to Brownsea Island. Our District Commissoner, Simon Speller, joined us for the day. The Cubs managed to find and take pictures of a red squirrel’s tail, a deer, peacocks and peacock babies (whatever they are called) and chickens. As the slightly damp weather receeded, we had dinner on the spot where the first Scout Camp was held by Baden Powell. The Cubs had their photo taken and re-affirmed their Cub Promise at the Promise stone. We had a tour of Poole Harbour on the return trip to the main land. A short walk to Asda for our evening meal was followed by a slow drive across Bournemouth to the local Swimming Pool with water slides.
Monday 22nd August
The Cubs awoke to a bright sunny morning. After breakfast they headed off to Moors Valley Country Park. The children spent the morning climbing on huge wooden structures and a tree-top walk through the forest. The Cubs had lunch overlooking the lakes. The afternoon began with us taking over the entire miniature railway, and finishing the final challenging structure. This evening the Cubs have enjoyed activities on site including Crate Stacking, Orienteering, Trampolining, Rifle Shooting, Archery, and Adventure Playground. The Cubs went to bed early after a long exciting day.
Sunday 21st August
A good journey to Stonehenge, the Cubs enjoyed the sun at Stonehenge before moving on to Old Sarum for lunch. The Cubs explored the battlements and Souvenir Shop at Old Sarum before completing the journey to Bournemouth. They choose their tents and unpacked before enjoying a roast dinner. After dinner the Cubs went for a short Night Hike before heading for bed. Photos from the day are available in the Photo Galleries.
