Eurojam 2005

I'm sure many of you have heard about Eurojam, and a good few of you actually attended the event, but fewer of you auditioned to be on the cast, and only a handful of us got through the audition and ended up on stage in front of people from all over the world.

But was this simple? No way! It all started over a year ago. To start with came the auditions. It did mean a trip to Chelmsford, singing, dancing, an auditorium full of hopeful Scouts and Guides and nerves running high all round! (It was fun though!)

Come Christmas the lucky ones got a letter announcing their place and got given the dates of the first rehearsals in May.
The rehearsals were fun, singing, dancing, making friends and having a good time, things that everybody loves and has in common! After a few more rehearsal weekends, a recording weekend in Stevenage and a rehearsal weekend at Skreens Park, which would be our home for Eurojam, the most important fortnight of the summer was creeping nearer.

The cast turned up two days before the start of Eurojam and we kicked things off with a Hawaiian party. The whole cast went to bed that night with an exited buzz in the air. We couldn.t wait!

The next day we hopped on the busses and set off to Hylands Park for the first time. We were all shocked speechless at the size of the stage, and the reassuring sign saying .DANGER OF DEATH . right as you were about to go on stage!
We were rehearsing for the rest of the day and the beginning of the next, preparing for the opening ceremony. Believe me, it was AWESOME. The music, the effects, the performance, but most of all, the audience. Over 10 thousand people having the party of their lives as you are on stage leading the festivities is just an amazing sight to take your breath away.

For the rest of Eurojam the cast was rehearsing and performing. We performed the two open day shows and two shows on Celebrate Europe Day, which we, at least, thought was a job well done! Then we started preparing for the closing ceremony, which we were not looking forward to. Not least because we were nervous and had new material to perform, but it was bringing an end to the Eurojam saga. The closing ceremony was a touching and meaningful event and a few people shed a tear or two as we left the stage, which by now felt like home.

So, Eurojam? Big, big, BIG thumbs up! Made a bunch of really good friends and all the work rehearsing was really worth it. Oh, and by the way, if it sounds like fun to you, I.d get practising for Worldjam in 2007!
